4 hot dog sausages (beef or turkey)

4 hot dog buns

1 cup ground beef or lentils (for a vegetarian option)

1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed

1 cup diced tomatoes (canned or fresh)

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon chili powder

1 teaspoon cumin

½ teaspoon paprika

1 tablespoon olive oil

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

¼ cup chopped fresh cilantro (for garnish)

Jalapeño slices (for garnish, optional)

In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion becomes translucent (about 3-4 minutes).

    Add the ground beef or lentils to the skillet. Cook until browned (if using beef) or heated through (if using lentils), approximately 5-6 minutes.

      Stir in the canned diced tomatoes, kidney beans, chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, and pepper. Simmer the mixture for about 10 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld.

        In the meantime, grill or boil the hot dog sausages according to package instructions until heated through and slightly charred if grilled.

          To assemble the chili dogs, place each sausage into a hot dog bun. Generously spoon the chili mixture over each sausage.

            Top each chili dog with shredded cheddar cheese, allowing it to melt slightly.

              Garnish with fresh cilantro and jalapeño slices if desired.
